Common Aims a strategy to support service user involvement

This position paper focusses on how service user and carer organisations could take the lead in building their capacity for involvement in the undergraduate and postgraduate social work degree. The successs in the first two years of the degree are outlined and the barriers to successful partnership working are identified and some ways forward are suggested.

The recommendations in this paper are mainly based on service users’ thoughts, experiences and ideas about how to strengthen participation. In common with all stakeholders in social work, the authors want to ensure that from the very start of their careers social workers fully understand the standards of practice that service users expect and the outcomes they value.
